A Weekly Review of the World of Typography

Releases:

Mayonnaise is the latest release from Spaghetype on Future Fonts: a chunky, squishy, bold, rounded sans caps typeface with volume and friendly imperfection.  The extra black display face is inspired by a 1914 specimen but updated for modern screens with a little mustard, err, mayonnaise.

Say hello to Tuppence.  Released by Delve Fonts this week, Tuppence is a reverse-contrast serif family designed by Roberto de Vicq de Cumptich, modernizing the letterforms of Blackfriars, a Stephenson Blake face over a century old.  "de Vicq’s vision for the design was to bring a more graceful appearance to the forms and explore its reversed contrast nature with additional weights." Tuppence is released at a time when designers are ready for a new personality to play with, discover more on the specimen site

David Jonathan Ross's Font of the Month Club offering for September is Roslindale Extended, an expansion of the Roslindale family.  The extended width of this release retains the Elzevirian charm and recognizable design features while moving into a commercial space of "very hot right now" extended high-contrast serifs.

Needing something a little different?  Sudtipos published Tinkuy Patterns this week, a collection of geometric and gridded glyphs made exclusively for creating patterns through typesetting.  The Tinkuy Patterns system is a product of the mind of Andes designer Vanessa A. Zúñiga Tinizaray, and divided into six files containing a total of more than 2650 modules that can be combined together creating an infinite range of possibilities. (Also, we're loving the Tinkuy House: a fictional shop they created as a specimen, too.)

Optimo Foundry released Metodo, a very upright and structured sans family of 10 fonts (5 weights of roman and italic styles) with a nod to early twentieth century typefaces.  "Metodo captures the distinct physicality of early modernist typography with a refined drawing" writes designer Davide Tomatis who has instilled Metodo with "sophisticated design with a timeless character."
