A Weekly Review of the World of Typography

Releases:

The newest offering at Future Fonts is MetamorBit, a bitmap style variable font, created and designed specifically to offer more options for CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) audiences.  MetamorBit comes with some pretty clever solutions for complex characters at small sizes on a bitmap grid, but also some custom textures that can be applied to make an endless world of aesthetically different typographic looks.

Commercial Type has published a few new typefaces to their vault.  First, Eugenio Sans and Serif. Originally designed for Francesco Franchi’s redesign of La Repubblica, Eugenio Sans and Serif pays homage to some of the classic types of days past like Bodoni and Futura.  Second, Royal Gothic—a Stevens, Shanks & Sons revival— has received updates and a new Heavy Italic Style.  And Third, Pialat, an elegant display typeface by Berton Hasebe that manages to be both soft and crisp. It's nice to see Commercial Type's continued commitment to their Vault catalog of masterfully made types.

Rupert is the newest font family to debut at I love Typography. Designed by  Kaja Słojewska, Rupert is a geometric sans-serif consisting of 8 weights, ranging from Thin to Black with matching italics. To differentiate it from the millions of other geo-sans out there, Rupert has been designed with a delightful sentimentality and seems to arrive on the page or screen with a smile.
