A Weekly Review of the World of Typography
Releases:

Owners is the newest release from MCKL Type. Owners is "an expressive family of fonts that takes inspiration from the dynamic energy of handmade signage as seen around Los Angeles." Designer Jeremy Mickel goes on to say that "These signs are made in the International Style, but warmed up through the quirk and charm of vernacular signmakers' unique approaches to letterform and construction." Owners is available as a whopping family of 110 fonts separated into 7 weights across 7 widths and an additional 12 Owners Text fonts.

Welcome Balneario to the world — the latest font family from Sudtipos. Balneario is a wide brush-inspired style script font family of 3 fonts that draws from the local sign painting vernacular in Balneario Camboriu, Brazil — a coastal resort town with a bustling tourist economy — and it shows! I can see this typeface representing a local fish and chips place, delivering incredible personality. As the foundry puts it: "Far from wanting to be perfect, [Balneario] seeks to be close, warm, and casual."

Netherlands based foundry Soft Machine dropped Maxeville Mono this week. As the monospaced extension of their Maxeville sans family released earlier this year, Mexeville Mono brings the same clean modernism with contemporary style notes into the more regimented world of the monospaced. Available as a family of four fonts: a regular, bold, and 2 stencils.

Although produced in 2020, MelvasType released Gladiola for sale on their foundry site this week. Gladiola is a bouncy and full-bodied brush script font in one style that evokes the hand lettering style of 60's illustrators and brush artists. It's well balanced and packed with alternates to make it a highly useable brush script font.

Fort Foundry released a script font of their own this week called Alkaline, and it's curvaceous and rock-solid at the same time. Alkaline is a connected script family of 10 styles inspired by mid-century lettering found on kitchen appliances. Available in 5 weights with script and all-caps versions, Alkaline provides a hand-done touch in a versatile way.

Paraiso is the newest Future Fonts release — a condensed slab display face with a "constructed feel" from Lucas Descroix. Paraiso has a more extreme take on the typical condensed slab news clarendon, with extended terminals and a few specialized moments of letter drawing. This V0.1 release consists of two weights — regular & heavy.
