A Weekly Review of the World of Typography
Releases:
☞
Colophon Foundry has released Midnight Sans: a "warm, but idiosyncratic" flavored display sans. Midnight Sans is available in a single weight — Black — across five widths, from Condensed (12 Black) to Expanded (60 Black), over two families — Midnight Sans RD, a chamfered variant; and Midnight Sans ST, a straight variant.
☞
Idem is the latest release from DSType Foundry. Idem is a Dwiggins inspired editorial serif design in text and display styles. The design features sturdy slabby serifs for the regular text setting styles, and a more flared, higher contrast version for the display.
☞
Sudtipos released Organica Pro this week, a family that plays with the flexibility of letter construction. Organica Pro proposes a curvilinear, subtle and sophisticated approach that looks beyond the typical "sticks and balls" model. Available as a family of 6 fonts across three weights of roman and italics.
☞
Famira Fonts has released several fonts lately through Type Network, but we wanted to make note of Sonar Sans — a marriage of historical geometric forms with "the forgiving human expression of early gothic typefaces." Playing with symmetry and low-contrast postures, Famira's Sonar Sans is a more sensitive and less aggressive geometric sans family worth trying out.
☞
Eliptico from Typeji has just been released on Future Fonts, and it's very sharp! Eliptico is aptly named as it's a high-contrast serif with intense diagonal stress and big, round elliptical counters.
☞
PF Din Max from Parachute Foundry is a modern update to the foundry's 2002 take on the Din Series. A solid corporate communications face, Din Max is now available with reassessed glyphs and in a variable font format.
☞
Pangram Pangram has released Eiko, an elegant and sharp high-contrast display serif family inspired by the work of Eiko Ishioka, a multitalented Japanese artist. Eiko is designed to sit alongside Japanese kana, hiragana, and katakana alphabets which come included in the family of fonts.
FONT UPDATES:
☞ R-Typography added discretionary ligatures to their top selling Flecha family.
